Members of the Puerto Rican National Guard are traveling around the country to thank those who came to the island to help with Hurricane Maria relief.
Dozens of New Jersey State Police troopers traveled to Puerto Rico after the storm to help with recovery.
“The brotherhood that we found, we made such a connection,” says State Police Sgt. Oscar Ricaldi. “Many of us went down there. For many of us, it was the first time we were ever in Puerto Rico.”
Lt. Carlos Vasquez with the Puerto Rican National Guard stopped in Passaic Wednesday and dropped off donated blankets to a homeless shelter in the city as his way of saying thanks.
More than 40 percent of Puerto Rico remains in the dark following the hurricane.
