Lightning strike knocks out power for hundreds in Stratford

United Illuminating says power has been restored to Stratford customers after a lightning strike blacked out hundreds of homes and businesses.
Witnesses say a transformer exploded after the 8 a.m. strike, which authorities say is a very rare occurrence in January.
At Pickel Barrel Deli, that meant no power and no customers for part of the morning.
Electricity came back around 10:30 a.m. – just in time for lunch.
