Musical equipment, electronics worth thousands stolen from Bridgeport church

BRIDGEPORT -

A Bridgeport church says services will go on Sunday as police look for thieves who stole thousands of dollars in equipment and electronics.

It happened at the Greater Mount Carmel Pentecostal Church Incorporated on Connecticut Avenue.

Pastor Norman O'Reggio says the church’s mission is to be the heart of the community, which is why he can't understand why anyone would steal from them.

He says he may not have the equipment necessary to hold a proper service, but it won't stop the congregation from gathering to worship Sunday.

The pastor says he locked up the church Sunday around 5 p.m.

The chairman deacon then went to check on the building Monday afternoon and noticed someone tried to break into both the front and side doors, but were unsuccessful.

However, he saw the back door was kicked in and the inside of the church was ransacked.

Thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment was gone, including the church’s audio board, keyboards, other instruments and microphones, on top of three TVs and a computer.

Pastor O'Reggio wants the incident to be a message to other churches to install security cameras.

He doesn't have any, but detectives are currently looking at video captured from a city camera on a telephone pole.

The pastor is hoping the suspects are caught before they steal from anyone else.

Police say they are currently looking through surveillance video from across the street.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call (203)-528-2402.
