Court documents: Bridgeport man lied about who drove in fatal crash
The family of a Stamford woman killed in a Merritt Parkway crash last year confronted the man charged in her death in court Wednesday.
Police arrested Bridgeport resident Donell Alston recently on charges of manslaughter, lying to police, driving under the influence of drugs and driving with a suspended license.
A rollover crash in December 2016 killed 51-year-old Lisa Brown on the Merritt Parkway in Westport.
Brown's relatives filled the first to center rows of the courtroom.
At the time, police say Alston told them Brown was driving and he was her passenger.
But court documents say tests proved Alston was driving -- and also high on PCP. And his license had been suspended for more than 4 ½ years.
The judge assigned Alston a public defender and set bond at $250,000, which prompted protests from Brown's loved ones. They say bond should have been set higher due to the severity of the crime.
Alston is due back in court next month. Brown's friends and family say they'll be there, too.
