General Assembly candidates campaign in Stratford

Two candidates vying for an open seat in the Connecticut General Assembly campaigned Monday in Stratford.
The 120th House seat opened up when Republican Laura Hoydick was elected mayor of Stratford. Running for her seat are Democrat Phil Young and Republican Bill Cabral.
Both parties have been busy reaching out to residents to make sure they're aware of the election and will turn out to vote.
Cabral had Derby state Rep. Themis Klarides campaigning in Stratford. If the Republicans take control of the General Assembly, Klarides is in line to become speaker of the House.
"Right now, the numbers are 79 Democrats to 72 Republicans, which means we only need four votes on any given bill to pass it on our side or defeat it on their side," Klarides said.
Young said the 120th House hasn't seen a Democrat in 44 years, and he's looking to change that.
The special election for the seat will be held Feb. 27.
