Police: Driver slammed fuel-loaded car into Middlesex Hospital on purpose

A man driving a car loaded up with gas containers purposely slammed his vehicle into a Middlesex Hospital entranceway Thursday morning, authorities say.
Authorities have identified the driver as Steven Ellam, a 27-year-old Middletown resident. They say he drove into the sliding doors to the hospital's emergency room and lit himself on fire.
A helicopter flew him to the Bridgeport Hospital burn unit, where he was listed in critical condition.
Police say they evacuated the emergency room and surrounding buildings as a precaution, but no one else was hurt, and they don't think there is any further threat. The hospital is closed for the time being, and all non-emergency surgeries have been canceled.
The FBI has joined local police and other agencies in the investigation.
