Nassau County is working to recycle water at the Cedar Creek sewage treatment plant in Seaford.

County Executive Laura Curran says the project will save 1 million gallons of water a day -- plus $350,000 a year in taxpayer money.

Instead of dumping treated water into the Great South Bay, the recycling plant will apply additional treatment and reuse the reclaimed water for industrial purposes -- reducing freshwater usage by about 80 percent.

Environmentalists say it's about time.

Suez, the company running the sewage plant, will pay for the $1 million project.

Work on the project is expected to be complete late this summer.
