Fairfield County's Giving Day returns for 5th year

Thursday is Fairfield County's Giving Day, one of the region's biggest philanthropic events.
For 24 hours straight, community members can donate to their favorite nonprofit organizations online.
The Fairfield County's Community Foundation started the event back in 2014, and since then, $4.5 million has been raised for more than 650 nonprofits.
The concept is simple: log on to FCGives.org, type in the name of the nonprofit you want to support and how much you want to donate.
You will also see how much money has been raised so far and how much time is left.
There are a number of prizes up for grabs too, including $20,000 for the nonprofit that raises the most money.
Aside from the online portion of the fundraiser, there were several events across the county.
News 12 was at Chelsea Piers in Stamford for the kickoff.
The fundraiser runs until 11:59 p.m.
