Man killed after tree falls on car in Stamford ID’d
Authorities have released the name of a man killed last week in Stamford when a tree fell on his moving car during a violent storm.
According to state police, Jonathan Rodriguez-Melendez, 25, of Hawthorne, New Jersey, was killed at about 3:30 p.m. Friday when a tree fell on his car as he drove south on Route 15.
Rodriguez-Melendez was declared dead at the scene.
His only passenger, also a New Jersey resident, was transported to Greenwich Hospital with what police called "minor, non-life-threatening injuries."
Police said that as the car approached an overpass, a tree dislodged and fell directly on top of the vehicle.
Police blamed the accident on rain and "severe" crosswinds that resulted from Friday's nor'easter.
AP wire services helped contribute to this report.
