Talk show host Steve Wilkos asked a judge for an alternative punishment Monday in connection with an alleged drunken driving rollover crash on Jan. 21.
Police say the 53-year-old's blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit when he slammed into several utility poles and then flipped his Lexus SUV on West Avenue in Darien.
His attorney Gene Riccio asked the judge to put Wilkos in a diversionary program to erase his charges. In a written statement, Wilkos described the measure he's taken to make sure such an incident doesn't happen again.
Wilkos, a former Chicago police officer and security director for the "Jerry Springer Show" as well as a Marine veteran, has admitted to his mistake and said he's battling depression. But he declined to comment after his court appearance.
He is due back in court April 16, when the court is expected to decide whether he can enter the diversionary program.
"The Steve Wilkos Show" is taped in Stamford.
