Gov. Malloy bans tractor-trailer traffic on highways

HARTFORD -

Gov. Dannel Malloy banned tractor-trailer traffic on highways due to "difficulties in New York state."

"We need traffic to stop well before they get to Fairfield County," said the governor. "We know that  [I-84]  is being adversely impacted because of the difficulties in New York state."

Malloy asked drivers already on the road to find a rest stop.  He says signage is being put into place in Massachusetts and Rhode Island to alert truck drivers about the ban.

Gov. Malloy said that he wasn't sure exactly what the problem was in New York.

"I don't know exactly what's going on in New York but they requested that assistance and we are granting that assistance by announcing this ban," he said.

The governor said he hopes the ban will be lifted at some point tonight.
