WESTPORT -

School officials held a meeting Wednesday night to discuss safety measures within the district.

The meeting took place in the Bedford Middle School auditorium.

Representatives from the town's police, fire and emergency management services forces answered any questions from parents.

Superintendent Colleen Palmer says she is calling for five new school resource officers.

"I will maintain a healthy learning environment so that every single student, if they are experiencing stress or are alienated, will be taken care of so we will never have an internal threat," she says.

The school district's PTA will meet Thursday morning to discuss the meeting.
