NEW MILFORD -

New Milford police are warning residents Thursday after a homeowner spotted a black bear.

They say the animal was eating from a birdfeeder at a house located on Perry Drive.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection encourages all residents to report bear activity immediately.

They recommend homeowners get rid of things, such as birdfeeders, to reduce the risk of attracting the unwanted visitors.

The DEEP says hibernation season is officially over.
