Officials are investigating the death of an inmate at the Garner Correctional Institution in Newtown Sunday.

They say that during an escort to the In-Patient Mental Health Unit, 31 year-old Jallen Jones became non-compliant and combative with staff and then became non-responsive.

Life-saving measures were initiated and Jones was transported via ambulance to a community hospital where he died - less than two hours after the initial event.

Jones was serving a 10-year sentence for robbery.
