Doctors: Danbury mayor collapsed after forgetting to take meds

ROCKY HILL -

Danbury mayor and gubernatorial candidate Mark Boughton collapsed at a campaign event after forgetting to take "several" doses of anti-seizure pills, his doctors said at a news conference Wednesday.

Boughton turned blue at an event March 15 in Avon, leading to questions of his health as he makes a run for governor on the Republican ticket.

Boughton had been given the anti-seizure medication Keppra after undergoing brain surgery last year. Keppra's side effects can include drowsiness, irritability and depression, but Boughton's doctors say they're unconcerned.

His campaign originally blamed dehydration for the collapse. His doctors said Wednesday that not drinking enough water could make a seizure more likely.

Boughton says he learned his lesson and will slow down and drink more water. His neurosurgeon has given him an "excellent" prognosis.
