BRIDGEPORT -

A Waterbury man has formally been charged Thursday in connection with a fatal accident that started with a police chase.

Police say Joseph Rivera was arraigned for the crash that killed a 61-year-old Bridgeport woman.

They say he sped away from state police and hit the woman's car as she drove across Iranistan Avenue.

According to police, Rivera also hit two pedestrians after the initial crash before running from the scene.

They say he was arrested a short time later.
