Fans turned out to bars across the country Thursday for opening day of the 2018 Major League Baseball Season.

Excited fans of all ages packed Bobby V's in Stamford to see the New York Mets kick things off against the St. Louis Cardinals. Many of them asked not to appear on camera because they were playing hooky.

People in the crowd wore jerseys for a number of other teams as well, but ties between the crowd at Bobby V's and the Mets run deep.

Bobby Valentine, a Stamford native, was the Mets manager from 1996 to 2002. 

"I really wanted to come here to see Opening Day," says Kyler Woerz, who came from Greenwich. "I really like the Mets, I'm a huge fan."

The Mets ended up winning 9-4.
