Police: Litchfield Town employee stole $69K from woman she cared for

Posted: Updated:

A Litchfield Town employee has been charged with stealing from a woman she was caring for.

Tara Yard, 58, was sentenced to a suspended eight-year prison term as part of a plea agreement to avoid trial.

Prosecutors say Yard padded her paycheck, wrote herself checks from the woman's account, and moved money from the estate to her personal account.

Police say she stole $69,000 from the victim.

She'll have to pay restitution to the family for the next five years.
