Gov. Dannel Malloy has named a new nominee to be chief justice of the state Supreme Court.
Associate Justice Richard Robinson of Stamford has been recommended for the position.
Robinson's nomination comes about a week after the Senate rejected Malloy's first choice, Andrew McDonald.
Malloy says Robinson has been an excellent jurist and has a keen understanding of the law.
Robinson says he is excited about the possible opportunity.
"If my nomination is approved I promise from day one to my final day at the branch I will do all that I can possibly do to live up the responsibilities on this new position," Robinson said.
Malloy also nominated Superior Court Judge Steven Ecker of New Haven to the Supreme Court.
