Darien police are joining the list of police departments taking the time to meet with residents in an informal setting.

During the first Coffee with a Cop event, officers met with community members to discuss issues in the town and to get to know one another.

"It's important for people to feel comfortable to reach out to the police department when they need us," K-9 officer Leslie Silva says. "And it's important for us to just be visible and transparent."

The department hopes to hold several Coffee with a Cop events a year.
