Residents in Dyker Heights are calling for action about sinkholes affecting their roads.

Numerous sinkholes have been found along 13th Avenue between Bay Ridge Parkway and 76th Street.

Dyker Heights Civic Association President Fran Vella-Marrone says the road has been sinking for five years. She says the city keeps putting blacktop over the affected areas to patch the problem but the road continues to sink.

Vella-Marrone says it’s a safety issue for both drivers and pedestrians in the area and the problem stretches even further down the avenue into the 80s. She believe there needs to be a long-term solution from the Department of Environmental Protection to fix the problem.

The DEP told News 12 that it conducted an investigation that found a leak on a water pipe belonging to a building across the street, and the property owner has been directed to repair the pipe.
