Protesters rallied Tuesday to demand that Mayor Bill de Blasio restore funding for adult literacy programs in the city.
Supporters, many of them students, marched from Mercy Center to the Bronx County Supreme Courthouse, where they joined others who were rallying.
Two-hundred immigrants, adult learners, educators and students attended the rally and say they are asking the mayor to restore the $12 million cut from the budget for adult education.
Supporters say the cuts hurt Bronx communities where a lot of immigrants live.
Advocates say they plan to have another rally next month.
"Ensuring our immigrant communities have the tools they need to succeed is a top priority of the mayor," a statement from the mayor's office reads. "The $12 million one-time funding for adult literacy will be discussed as part of the ongoing budget process."
