Charges voided against dad of 6-month-old found unconscious
A Gates Avenue father found his 6-month-old son unconscious in their apartment Tuesday, police say, leaving him hospitalized with a critical head injury.
The child was taken to Woodhull Medical Center, where he remained listed in critical condition Thursday.
Police charged and then voided the charges against his 24-year-old father Shatwaun Gilmore.
Gilmore has been released from custody.
City officials say they immediately began the investigation once they learned of the incident.
"Our top priority is protecting the safety and well-being of all children in New York City," said Eric Ferrero, deputy commissioner for external affairs of the city Administration for Children's Services. "As soon as this family came to our attention, we immediately launched an investigation with the NYPD."
Neighbors asked not to appear on camera but told News 12 that they often heard Gilmore arguing with the baby's mother.
