HCC marks 50th anniversary with Community Day celebration

Students and faculty at Housatonic Community College celebrated a special milestone Thursday.

It was Community Day in Bridgeport in honor of the college's 50th anniversary.

Special commendations from Mayor Joe Ganim and Gov. Dannel Malloy were presented, along with awards for outstanding staff and faculty.

Afterward everyone celebrated at a reception featuring food trucks and a live band.

Among those honored at the celebration were Acting Academic Dean Robin Avant, who received a statewide award for teaching excellence, and retired professor and advocate for the blind, Elizabeth Doane.
