Health officials are warning Brooklyn residents after some people in the area may have been exposed to measles.

News 12 is told two tourists from Europe with the disease visited the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 8-73 New Jersey Ave. last Sunday. Officials say anyone who was in that area between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. could have been affected since the virus can remain alive in the air and on surfaces for a couple of hours.

Those born before 1957 who have received two doses of the measles, mumps or rubella vaccines are considered to be immune to the disease. People who have already had the measles should also be immune to the disease.  But those who have not may be at risk of getting the illness.

Some symptoms of measles include fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis or runny nose. They usually appear about 10 to 12 days after exposure.

Two locations in Putnam and Orange counties are also included in the warning. Those who think they may have been exposed should see a doctor as soon as possible.
