Study: Bridgeport has safest college campus in state

BRIDGEPORT -

A new study from the security company ADT has found Bridgeport University has the safest college campus in Connecticut.

Students say they see countless security officers and marked cars around campus throughout the day.

The study analyzed campus size, location and federal crime data.

Schools needed a minimum of 1,000 enrolled students.

"We're the safest, in Bridgeport, where everybody thinks this is the worst place to be," says April Vournelis, the director of campus security. "We're showing them that no it's not. It's a good place to be, and it's a safe place to be."

UB also says it's one of the only schools in the country to provide all students and staff with personal, handheld alarms and locators.
