BRIDGEPORT -

A firefighter received the special opportunity of participating in commencement at the University of Bridgeport Saturday, 30 years after graduating.

Nick Burruano, 52, graduated back in 1988 with a degree in music education, but was so busy becoming a firefighter and father that he hadn’t been able to participate in commencement exercises.

After three decades, Burruano was able to attend the university’s graduation ceremony at the Webster Bank Arena.

Burruano says it was the greatest feeling in the world to obtain the sense of closure and affirmation that only comes from walking on stage and receiving a diploma.
