Habitat for Humanity holds building competition in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD -

Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County held its third annual building competition Wednesday night in Fairfield.

Organizers say teams of four competed in a hammering relay, with the fastest team from each round moving on. The winner earns a bedazzled hammer and bragging rights.

They say proceeds from the event will go to "Women Build," a habitat committee group.

"We always say at Habitat is we don't give handouts, we give a hand ups and work alongside these families," says Andrea Stone, of the Women Build Committee. "We do 500 hours of sweat equity to build their home, there's no other feeling like it. We're all volunteers with lives, but what we give back for participating in these events and build days is far more than what we give."

Women Build is currently working on their 15th home and is expected to be finish this summer.
