Crews were still working Friday night to restore power to thousands of residents in western Connecticut after a storm ripped through the region Tuesday.
In New Fairfield, 73-year-old Richard Haber was been without power for days and trapped at home by fallen trees and power lines.
But he says he's making due with a camp stove and kerosene lanterns.
"Like we used to do in the old days," he says.
Haber's other tricks include packing his powerless fridge with ice to keep his food fresh.
"That's how it goes," he says. "We get up in the morning. We cook hot water. We have an old-fashioned coffee machine. It's that simple."
Eversource says more than 90 percent of homes in New Fairfield were still without power Friday.
Maria Evans, the town's director of emergency management, says crews are hard at work trying to bring life back to normal.
"Hopefully by the end of the weekend," Haber says.
