The North Bellmore School District will put up for vote next month an amended budget after the previous one failed last week.
The move was decided Tuesday night at a special Board of Education meeting, during which it was debated whether to amend the budget or put up the same one for revote.
As previously reported, although the district won 51.8 percent in favor of the budget on May 15, the budget did not pass because it did not obtain the 60 percent supermajority required to pass due to two transportation referendums.
The board has decided to put forth for revote a revised budget -- this time without the transportation referendum.
Superintendent Marie Testa says the amended budget will be $75,000 less than the original budget because the district recently received a reduction in insurance premiums and a reduction in BOCES rental facility charges.
Christine Braun is one of many North Bellmore parents who said they were disappointed when the school budget was defeated. A mother of a third-grader in the district, she says she hopes voters will pass the amended budget.
"I hope that we'll have luck this time, and people will understand the importance of voting yes for the budget," Braun says. "I mean, it’s really all about the kids."
The revote is set for June 19.
