Volunteers feed homeless on Memorial Day

BRIDGEPORT -

Despite the rain, volunteers still showed up to feed the homeless in Bridgeport.

The event was held on the bridge on John Street, one of the most popular spots in the city for passing out food and clothing to people in need.

Organizers said Sunday’s wet weather kept many people from attending, but the spirit of generosity on display was still impressive.

"Even as we celebrate the heroes who have given their lives for this nation, we should celebrate our freedoms by being generous to the folks who need help, and that's what's happening here today," says Sen. Richard Blumenthal.

Organizer Chuck Dikko says he refused to cancel the event because of the wet weather.
