BRIDGEPORT -

Gunfire wounded a man outside St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport Tuesday morning, police say.

Witnesses say they heard as many as eight gunshots and saw two people running up the street.

Police say medics ran out of the hospital and immediately began treating the victim, who required surgery. The hospital later listed him in critical but stable condition.

The victim is in his 40s, authorities say. No one else was hurt.

Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald says investigators could not immediately identify a motive or any suspects. They were looking at surveillance video from the surrounding area and trying to piece together details about the incident.
