It was a bitter sweet ending for a Fairfield Little Leaguer as he rounded the bases for the very last time Tuesday night.
Ethan Takacs was diagnosed with SMA Type 1 when he was 3-months-old.
It's a progressive disease that takes away his muscle use, similar to Lou Gehrig's disease.
Doctors said he wouldn't make it past his first birthday, but he's defied the odds.
Takacs is now just a few weeks shy of becoming a teenager, and will age out of his Little League division.  So members of the community turned out at Tunxis Hill Park to make his final trip across home plate special.
Just like in games past, a teammate hit a pitch, and then the team along with Takacs’ coach pushed him around the bases as both teams cheered him on.
It's a tradition that's been performed at the top of each inning at every one of his games.
In addition to the final push around the bases, his teammates presented Takacs with a baseball signed by each and every one of them.
