Crews battle multiple fires across Fairfield

Three fires in under eight hours kept fire crews in Fairfield busy Wednesday.
Officials say the first one broke out at a home on Toilsome Hill Road.
According to officials, the fire started in the attic and significant damage was done to the top floor.
The family is now temporarily without a home, and the cause is being investigated.
A few hours later, officials say two cars were engulfed in flames on the Merritt Parkway after colliding around 7 p.m.
The southbound side of the parkway, between exits 44 and 42, was shut down as crews knocked down the flames.
No one was injured.
Crews also responded to a basement fire on Winnepoge Drive earlier in the day.
Officials say the boiler was destroyed, but the rest of the home is OK.
Officials are stressing the importance of having working smoke detectors. They say that was the case in both house fires yesterday, preventing possible tragedies.
