An 18-year-old Stamford man was shot under the I-95 overpass on West Avenue just before 9 p.m. Thursday.
Police tell News 12 Connecticut that the victim stumbled about 200 feet and collapsed in the middle of the road. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died. Police identified the victim as Antonio Robinson and say he was a former high school football player at Stamford High School.
The death is the city’s first homicide in a year and a half.
On Friday, officers and K-9s were back at the crime scene and also at a neighborhood a half-mile away on Whitmore Lane off of West Main Street. Police say the suspect or suspects may have fled that way.
Stamford Mayor David Martin released a statement saying in part, “We often take for granted how safe our community has become, but the homicide that occurred yesterday serves as a sad reminder that gun violence can occur anywhere."
Anyone with information on the  shooting is asked to call 203-977-4420
