‘Sex and the City’ aired 20 years ago today.

The pilot first aired on HBO on June 6, 1998.

The New York City-based show ushered in many popular TV shows like, ‘Girlfriends,’ ‘Entourage,’ ‘Grey's Anatomy,’ ‘Gossip Girl’ and ‘Girls.’

Former ‘Sex and the City’ actress and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon is paying homage to the show by releasing a merchandise line that celebrates not only her campaign run for New York governor, but also the 20th anniversary of 'Sex and the City'.
