UConn Stamford adds more dorm space as enrollment grows

UConn Stamford is increasing its dorm offerings near campus a year after introducing new 116 downtown housing units.
Demand has continued to grow, so officials have added another 120 beds in two separate buildings.
And if that's not enough, the school says it might be able to house more people in another building.
So far, about 500 students have placed housing deposits for the upcoming fall semester, and the city says it's welcoming campus growth with open arms.
"The students add so much life and joy and energy to the downtown," says Sandy Goldstein, of the Downtown Special Services District. "Win-win for the school, because their enrollment has gone up by 400 percent, and it's a win-win for the downtown. These students walk around all over, go to our restaurants, shop in our stores. They are perfect."
UConn has seen a 23 percent increase in applications to the Stamford regional campus for the upcoming year.
