Gov. Malloy unveils state's first 'DMV Express'

Gov. Dannel Malloy on Wednesday unveiled the state's first "DMV Express."
It's located inside a Nutmeg Credit Union on Boston Post Road, just off of Interstate 95 in Milford, and will open on Thursday.
The express center will only handle issues like driver's license renewals and duplicates. Customers walk in and register on a self-serve touchscreen. From there, they can either wait or get a time to come back.
Two more DMV Express locations are expected to open by the end of the year. Malloy says he hopes they help cut down on chronically long lines at the full DMV branches. While most services have shifted online, about 30 percent of drivers don't use the system because it's been plagued with glitches.
Within the next few months, drivers may be able to make a DMV Express appointment through a phone app. The state may offer that service at the main branches as well.
