The North End Boys and Girls Club in Bridgeport is being torn down and will be replaced with a brand-new clubhouse.
The clubhouse on Madison Avenue has sat vacant for the past 15 years. It was built in the 1940s.
Cherry Hill Construction workers are now using an excavator to demolish it, knocking down cement walls and removing steel beams.
Officials say they've teamed up with the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club to get the project going. Wakeman raised $13 million to fund the construction and operation of a brand-new Boys and Girls Club facility.
The demolition is expected to take five weeks to complete.
Bridgeport Director of Economic Development Thomas Gill says construction on the new facility is slated to begin in spring 2019, with a potential grand opening in 2020.
