Police officers set out to finish the final leg in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Friday.
The first leg began in eastern Connecticut on Wednesday, and the final leg kicked off at the Greenwich Library at 8 a.m.
This year's run marks the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics Connecticut.
This year also features a remembrance ceremony for State Trooper First Class Walter Greene, who died recently of a 9/11-related cancer, and who was a big supporter of the Special Olympics.
Officers and athletes ran along Route 1, passing the torch at each town line.
The run ended at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, the site of the opening ceremony for this weekend's Special Olympic Games.
The torch run raises awareness and funds for the events.
"It's a very important thing," says Norwalk Police Department Lt. Terry Blake. "It's very gratifying. But really the best part of it is seeing the participants' faces."
