Hundreds were in Newtown Saturday to celebrate Catherine’s Butterfly Party, which pays tribute to the life of Sandy Hook victim Catherine Violet Hubbard.
She was only 6 years old when her life was taken during the school shooting in 2012.
The event, hosted by the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, included dozens of shelters with animals needing homes.
"She adored animals, and to honor her memory, we're building the sanctuary to be a place of healing and compassion for all creatures. Humans and animals alike," said mother Jenny Hubbard.
Catherine's party didn't leave any animals behind.
"I think it's the celebration of a very special little girl,” said Michelle Neufeld Montak, of Gimme Shelter Animal Rescue. “Just from all her kindness and her big heart, this is what she's created. All the homes she's finding for these animals are all in her honor."
Last year, more than 3,000 people attended the event and more than 50 pets were adopted. Organizers say even more people came out this year.
