Bridgeport residents are fighting to protect a 30-foot pine tree put in by a resident in the Marina Village Apartment complex in 1964.
With the complex set to be torn down and replaced, residents want to make sure the tree is either preserved or transplanted nearby.
"It's a tree that was planted and has stood here through all these years, through this time. It has weathered Sandy and some of everything else that has transpired here in the South End," says Bridgeport city council member Denese Taylor-Moye.
The group has dubbed their preservation effort "A Tree Grows in Bridgeport."
They're asking city officials to help them save the pine before it gets bulldozed.
