The MTA will introduce a new reduced-fare program for low-income families by January, officials say.
Families with incomes below the federal poverty line -- about $25,000 a year for a family of four -- will be able to get MetroCards for half the normal price.
The plan has prompted arguments from critics who say it will cost the MTA too much money, but many straphangers who spoke with News 12 supported the idea.
