Officials say a 10-year-old Westport boy died after a crash in upstate New York.
New York State Police say Perrin Delorey was riding in one of two cars involved in a head-on crash. Both of his parents were in the car, which crossed the center line before the crash, according to police. All three were hospitalized, and the boy died Monday.
According to his Little League coach, Jeffrey Brill, the Delorey family went to see the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
He was a fourth-grader at Green Farms Elementary School in Westport, where officials say they've brought in grief counselors for his classmates.
Brill says the boy died with his baseball glove at his side. He also issued a statement praising the student's ethos and spirit and describing him as the league's most improved player this season.
Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe says he didn't know Perrin personally but has only heard good things.
"By every report I've had, he's just a wonderful young man," Marpe says. "Everyone enjoyed his presence, and he was lively and clearly will be missed."
