The driver involved in a Berkley Township accident that destroyed an iconic hot dog stand and seriously injured its owner has been identified.

Mark Poplawski, 52, of Forked River, suffered minor head and neck injuries and was treated at Community Medical Center. 

The crash occurred around 7:45 a.m. at the "Der Wunder Wiener" stand on Route 9 south.

According to witnesses, the SUV skidded when Poplawski tried to avoid a vehicle that was stopped to make a turn.

The SUV then struck a utility pole and the stand.

A family spokesperson for the stand owner, Gerry Lacrosse, 74, of Beachwood, says he underwent surgery and more will be needed, but his prognosis looks very good.

LaCrosse was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical following the crash, where he remains hospitalized.

It’s not clear if any charges will be filed.
