NEW HAVEN -

More than 40 guns are off the streets after a gun buyback event in New Haven over the weekend.

The event was hosted by the New Haven Police Department, Yale New Haven's Children's Hospital, the Injury Free Coalition for Kids, and the Newtown Alliance.

Officers say 45 operable guns, and three that could have been made operable, were turned in.

Another gun buyback event is scheduled for December.
