National HIV Testing Day has passed, but many towns and cities across Connecticut are still offering free testing.
Stamford CARES says it offers confidential and free HIV testing at the Stamford Government Center every weekday on the eighth floor.
"I think it's important to get tested so you can control the disease, it's good for people to know you can live a very healthy life and maintain a healthy lifestyle,” says Stamford CARES Medical Case Manager Jean Lorius. “As long as you know your status and you keep your status under control and take your medication, your adherence, all of that stuff."
The U.S. Center for Disease Control observes HIV Testing Day to raise awareness about the importance of knowing your status.
The State Department of Public Health says over 10,000 people in Connecticut are known to be living with HIV.
