Fuhgeddaboutit Food: Xata

Sheepshead Bay is known for its large Russia community, but it’s also home to the city's only Belarusian restaurant.
Xata is known for its fried potato pancakes. The potato dish called "machanka" is served alongside meat and smothered in a creamy sauce. Diners can also get it stuffed with meat in what's known as the "kolduni."
"Belarus is the country of potato," says Kateryna Brestobska, a waitress at the restaurant. "Almost all the dishes that are the most popular are made from potato."
Customers say they also come to the restaurant  for fish and chicken. They say they don't know how to cook Russian or Belarussian food, so they come to Xata.
