News 12’s Walt Kane has several consumer alerts to let you know about this week.
4th of July Gas Prices
Gas prices around the country are down an average of 12 cents since Memorial Day.
AAA says that the average price of a gallon of regular is now $2.88 in New Jersey, $3.01 in Connecticut and $3.02 in New York. But those prices are still up 60 cents from last year.
Wells Fargo trouble
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has fined Wells Fargo $4 million for pushing brokerage clients to sell investments early, so that they could get extra fees. In the past, Wells Fargo admitted to opening fake accounts, and charging car buyers for insurance they didn't need.
Product recalls
Lexus is recalling 120,000 cars due to fuel leaks that can cause fires. The recall affects some IS-350 and 3250Cs from 2006 to 2014, as well as GS-350s and 450-Hs from 2007 to 2010. Customers who bought their vehicles new from the dealer should be notified by mail.
Home Depot and Lowes are recalling some aluminum ladders, because they might break if stood on them. The recall affects five models of telescoping ladders. The model numbers all start with MT-IAA.
