A miscommunication caused a scare Saturday at Jennings Beach in Fairfield.
First responders rushed to the scene after it was reported that a 20-year-old swimmer was no longer visible in the water.
It prompted a heavy response from authorities on both Jennings and Penfield beaches.
After nearly an hour long search, the missing person was found safe by authorities and brought to shore.
"It was determined that the swimmer was never in the water and ended up walking to the reef which was a good half hour away," said Lt. Robert Kalamaras, of the Fairfield Police Department.
Officers were able to locate the person by using the PA system.
The police department says the miscommunication is a reminder that it's always a good idea to let people know where you are in a crowded area.
